How can Apperception help with Big Data...?

Our suite of Data Visualisation tools allow businesses to see exactly what data they have stored away across multiple servers, no matter how many terabytes they hold.

We train staff and implement our Bolden James labelling software, meaning documents are categorised and labelled, with retention dates being applied by staff as they go. This means no document is ever kept longer than it should, reducing cost for your organisation and keeping you safe from hefty ICO fines.

If you are looking for ways to analyse and label the data your organisation is creating, send us an email at sales@apperception.co.uk.

Today at Apperception we bring you 3 rather random and unusual facts about the internet.

The first fact is on webcams which nowadays are used mainly for user-to-user interaction and often inappropriate endeavors, but the first webcam was used to monitor a coffee pot.

The next fact is on emails and did you know that over 75% of all email messages are considered total spam.

Last but not least did you know the first message ever relayed over the internet was “LOG”, which was actually supposed to have been “LOGIN” but there was a huge crash and this difficult task couldn’t be completed for the time being. This was back in the 1960’s at the famous research university known as MIT.

Friday Fact 06/03/2015

This weeks Friday fact concerns Data Analytics. Did you know, that according to Forrester, most companies estimate that they only analyse around 12% of their data, leaving a whopping 88% ignored.

Let us guess, you’re probably reading this thinking to yourself, just how can this be possible?

Let us tell you. A lack of analytics tools and “repressive” data silos are the two reasons why companies ignore the vast majority of their own data, coupled with fact that it’s often hard to know which information is valuable and which is best to be left ignored.

If are looking for ways to analyse the data your organisation is creating, send us an email at sales@apperception.co.uk .

DataCube shown at IRMS Public Sector Group meeting on 6th February. Westminster!

Last week Apperception took part in an extremely interesting meeting between the IRMS Public Sector Group where talks were given by Dr Michael Taylor, Julie Burcham of InForm Consult and Marc Fresco. Apperception presented and demonstrated the DataCube’s ability to deal with the issues of Legacy Data and create order out of chaos using the unique conceptual search and categorisation features of the DataCube.

Mike Harrison presented and demonstrated the ability of the DataCube to categorise millions of unstructured documents based on their conceptual content. This was demonstrated by running the DataCube’s bespoke ‘Local Government Classification Schema’ against the dataset - ready for the introduction of retro protective labelling or ingestion into a ERDMS to support the company’s contention that it is the document which needs protecting to enable the network infrastructure to keep the organisation safe.

The attendees enjoyed the day despite facing and overcoming the hardships of the London Tube strike.

Apperception has been invited to present at the IRMS joint North & Midlands meeting on the 27th February 2014 at Stafford University, Stoke on Trent Campus.

Aberdeen City Council Fined £100,000 by the ICO

The ICO revealed it has issued Aberdeen City Council with a fine for £100,000 after confidential records of some of its constituents were published online. Some of the information related to alleged criminal offences of constituents and the care of vulnerable children.

The breach occurred when a council worker accessed sensitive documents from her personal computer while at home. Her machine had a file transfer programme installed on it, which automatically uploaded all of the sensitive information onto the Internet.

The ICO stated that Aberdeen City Council had no relevant home working policy in place for staff and failed to have sufficient measures in place to restrict external downloading of sensitive information from the council’s network. The huge fine administered by the ICO speaks volumes about their tolerance to Local authority data breaches.

If you would like to speak to someone at Apperception about how your organisation could avoid security breaches such as these please register an interest here. You can read more on the story here ICO.
